Ed Sheeran is opening up about some of the hardest moments in his life in the soon-to-be-released docuseries Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All. Offering a glimpse at the four-episode series, the trailer recounts Sheeran’s meteoric rise to fame, before delving into his lowest points, including the death of his best friend, Jamal Edwards, and finding out about his wife Cherry Seaborn’s tumor diagnosis.
“Everything in my life sort of got so much better when Cherry got into it. I got married, and I’m a dad who has two daughters,” Sheeran says in the trailer. “We’ve reached a peak, and then it just went [boom noise]. Cherry’s health … it got really bad.
“Then suddenly, my best friend Jamal died,” he adds, explaining how the loss “took over my life.”
Upon the release of his latest album, Subtract, Sheeran spoke about the pain of losing his best friend, and his experiences with depression and anxiety.
“I felt like I was drowning, head below the surface, looking up but not being able to break through for air… And in just over a week I replaced a decade’s worth of work with my deepest darkest thoughts.”
