Duke and Duchess host inspirational teenagers at Kensington Palace reception
Kate Middleton joined husband William at Kensington Palace to recognise the finalists of Radio 1's Teen Heroes of 2018.

The BBC Radio 1 Teen Heroes awards honours the UK’s unsung heroes. This year’s three winners were Siena, 16, who supports students with autism and learning disabilities; Lily, 14, a wheelchair motocross competitor and advocate; and Junior, 14, a dancer who campaigns against bullying.

The winners were invited along with five other finalists and Radio 1 DJs Greg James and Clara Amfo.

It is the third consecutive year that Radio 1’s Teen Heroes have been honoured with an invitation to the Palace.

The Duchess’ unexpected attendance was not announced by the royal couple ahead of time. It is the second time Kate has taken part in an unannounced appearance this week, having hosted a private meeting for one of her charity initiatives on Tuesday.
