A little bit of cold wasn’t enough to deter the brightest stars from this year’s BAFTA awards ceremony.
Among the red carpet arrivals was the Duchess of Cambridge, stealing the show in one of her favourite designers, Alexander McQueen.
The Duchess and her husband, Prince William were the guests of honour at this year’s film ceremony.
Prince William has served as president of BAFTA since 2010, and will be doing more than just enjoying the show – he will be presenting the BAFTA Fellowship award that celebrates lifetime achievement. This year’s award will be going to US comic Mel Brooks for his work in the arts.
Prince William had a go at his own comedy sketch, joking that BAFTA had run out of actors to present, after being announced by Stephen Fry as “Prince Bill”.
The Royal couple were in the company of this years Best Actress winner – Emma Stone, and Best Actor winner – Casey Affleck.
The Best Supporting Actor award also went to the incredible – Dev Patel, who said in the winners’ press room: “It’s a lot to take in. I honestly really did not expect it! We’ve gone to so many of these award ceremonies and this one was where everything changed, on home turf. My family were in the audience. It’s kind of an out-of-body experience.”
“As you saw, I didn’t (prepare an acceptance speech)! I think I forgot some people…” he laughed.
Dev also thanked his own family, who were seated in the audience. “This film is about family,” he said. “You guys are my driving force.”
