Donatella Versace pays tribute to her brother on the 25th anniversary of his murder

Donatella Versace paid tribute to her late brother Gianni on the 25th anniversary of his murder in an Instagram post saying "25 years of missing you, Gianni. Every day, I wish you were still here."

The Versace company, which was started by Gianni in 1978, also shared a post on Instagram to honour its founder’s death. “In memory of Gianni Versace on the 25th anniversary of his passing. With love from all at Versace.”

Versace began his apprenticeship at a young age at his mother’s sewing business in Italy. In 1973, he became the designer of “Byblos”, and opened his first boutique in Milan in 1978 quickly became a sensation on the international fashion scene known for his bold prints and vivid colours. In 1989 the company expanded into haute couture with the launch of Atelier Versace. At the time of his death, Versace’s empire was valued at $807 million and included 130 boutiques across the world.

The famed fashion designer was shot outside his Miami Beach mansion at age 50 after a morning walk. Serial killer Andrew Cunanan fatally shot the designer. Eight days later, Cunanan killed himself on a houseboat in North Miami Beach.

The Versace mansion at 11th Street and Ocean Drive his now a boutique hotel called Villa Casa Casaurina with fine dining Italian restaurant called Gianni’s.
