Halloween is more than just a somewhat-celebrated occasion in Lithuania. Instead, the entire European country gets behind what they call the Day of the Dead, with a host of different kinds of celebrations.
Crypts and cemeteries are decorated with candles and flowers, with the most extravagant being the Hill of Crosses where more than 200,000 crosses stand.
Lithuanian cemeteries are a site to behold, resembling more of a garden or park than a graveyard. Day of the Dead is celebrated on November 1 in Lithuania, with hundreds flocking to their local cemetery at dusk to remember their ancestors.
