Dame Jools Topp, one half of entertainment duo the Topp Twins, has passed away after living a number of years with cancer.

Dame Jools formed the singing duo with her twin sister Lynda in the early 80s, entertaining generations of Kiwis with their unique comedic mix of country and folk music performances, laced with yodeling.

The Topp Twins’ management company shared today that Dame Jools died peacefully at her home on Saturday with her twin sister Lynda, brother Bruce, loved ones and pets by her side.

Her family then shared a message on Facebook of their ‘unimaginable grief’ at their loss.

“It is with deep sorrow and unimaginable grief, we announce the passing of Jools our beloved sister and daughter. Today we have lost a true warrior woman. Jools was wise, courageous, generous, inspiring and funny. We will miss her forever. Love Lynda, Bruce and Jean.

Jools was first diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 48 in 2006, but recovered after having her left breast removed and undergoing chemotherapy. In 2021 she learned the cancer had returned, not long before sister Lynda also found out she had breast cancer, with Lynda being diagnosed with Grade 3 invasive breast cancer in December 2021.

Earlier this month the sisters shared a smiling birthday post on Facebook with a photo, saying “Ye Haa We made it to 68” with a cake emoji.
