Fresh coloured-leather pieces offer the ideal layering approach for autumn and winter.

A black leather jacket surely is up there in the fashion icon stakes. In general we think of a motorcycle-style piece that shrugs on over jeans or a dress as a perennial piece with just enough edge to make anyone feel a little bit cooler.

However, in recent times we’ve seen the leather jacket’s evolution. Slouchy and oversized with a vintage aesthetic, like the supple, drop-shouldered pieces in Saint Laurent’s spring/summer 2025 show, have quickly been picked up by style influencers and the A-List of Hollywood’s red carpets.

Leather is also littered through the current season’s collections from the likes of Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Coach, Ralph Lauren and plenty more.

What’s notable about the leather landing in stores is that though jackets are a huge focus, other garments like trousers, shirts and skirts are being turned out in huge numbers too.  A leather pencil skirt with a plain white tee, or a silk shirt with leather trousers are desirable styling approaches as the cooler weather starts to set in.

Rich autumnal hues of chocolate, rust, burgundy and olive are the leather pieces to look out for right now, but there are playful pastels too.

Here’s our edit of the best coloured leather styles to wear this season:
