The pair have created an accessibly-priced range of makeup for those wanting to pare their routine down to just a few products, as well as those that find the abundance of product options that already exist, overwhelming.
The new beauty brand comes as Barber prepares to tour Australia and New Zealand, performing her live stand-up set, Backup Dancer, in August and September.
Greaves announced in March she was stepping down from the day-to-day running of successful athleisure brand P.E Nation she created 10 years ago with fashion personality and friend Pip Edwards.
Booie Beauty launches with a five-piece makeup collection that includes an illuminating moisturiser, a lip, eye and cheek tint, mascara, eyebrow gel tint and lip balm. Prices range from AU$21 to AU $39 through the Booie Beauty website.
Why beauty for Barber?
Barber and Greaves say the products ‘hit that sweet spot between simple and affordable’ while also being ‘quality and excellent.’
While Barber has become famous globally for her humorous social media clips that parody celebrity and influencer culture, she says her intention with the new line was to not leave people out of the beauty conversation, making cosmetics accessible whether you know your illuminators from your highlighters or not, or whether you are aged 18, or 80.
“I’ve built my career on exposing bullshit, and to have ownership over this venture means that I can give my audience exactly what they want, without compromise,” explains Barber. “I’m all about people celebrating the best version of themselves, however that looks.”
She says the pair conceptualised Booie as a brand for people who ‘the beauty industry forgot about’.
“Who aren’t necessarily confident with makeup and who often feel totally overwhelmed by the abundance of choice, but still love makeup and would love to be included,” shares Barber. “Those people are my people.”
In particular, the comedian has shared that her audience often finds only specific products targeted at them.
“When did makeup become so bloody stressful and why are the only beauty products targeted at women over a certain age anti-ageing creams?” she asks. She insists there’s still a gap in the industry for high-quality, straightforward, cruelty-free, and affordable products.
What’s in the range?
The five products in the Booie range are meant to get you out the door quickly, creating a full face or adding one or two bits to an already-sorted routine.
The moisturiser comes in four gently-illuminating shades and can be used as a primer, a moisturiser or even applied after foundation on areas where you’re after a bit more glow.
The stick-form lip, eye and cheek tint offers swipe-on colour in two shades, a raspberry-red or rose-pink, that can be blended into skin with your fingers.
The mascara is a tubing formula that won’t smudge and removes with warm water, while a brow gel tint in two shades grooms and holds brows in place.
Finally, a creamy lip balm in three sheer shades adds a flattering veil of colour to your pout.
And if you’re wondering about that name? It’s a playful, made-up – and purposefully unserious – moniker Barber also calls her kids.
