Colourist of the Year: Chinney Yeap

Big congratulations to MiNDFOOD STYLE contributor, hair stylist Chinney Yeap, who won the Wella Colourist of the Year Award at the recent Industry Hair Event 2015.

Held in Auckland, Industry gathers together New Zealand’s leading hair talent, and along with spotlightling hair brands, and profiling up-and-coming hair professionals (see the May issue of MiNDFOOD), culminates in an awards ceremony. The event was co-founded by other MiNDFOOD contributor Sara Allsop.

The New Ponytail

Ponytails are like trousers – apart from height and width, there’s very little variation that can be brought to the table. Unless you place them in the hands of hair maestro Guido Palau.

At the Dior Spring15 Couture show, Palau reinvented the pony, by looping it and adding another section using D-rings and hair extensions.

Quick off the draw (pun intended), Melbourne-based New Zealand illustrator Kelly Thompson created the image ‘Drawing, Dioring’, and posted it to her blog and Instagram, writing: “Just when I cut my hair off Dior comes along and creates a ponytail to shake the cobwebs off all ponytails, possibly the most talked about ponytail of all time don’t you think?”

The good thing here is this is one catwalk style that’s easily achievable at home (unless you want to replicate Palau’s precision backcombing and side partings). Just grab yourself some smoothing lotion, hair spray, a few hair extensions and D-rings, and that on-trend LOB will be instantly and elegantly elongated.
