Christ the Redeemer lights up for countries affected by coronavirus
Rio de Janeiro's iconic Christ the Redeemer statue was set aglow with flags and words of hope amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

Showing compassion and solidaritory for the countries impacted by the COVID-19 crisis, the statue shone with flags from around the world.

Messages of “pray together” also lit up the statue in different languages.

Brazil currently has 261 cases of the novel coronavirus and Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro have both declared a state of emergency.

Just today, President Bolsonaro announced the country will shut off borders to Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru and Suriname.

Like other countries, mass gatherings like sporting and cultural events have been cancelled and the Brazilian government is urging its citizens to stay at home
