101-year-old fashion and beauty icon Iris Apfel has created a new makeup collection in collaboration with British brand Ciaté London.
Showing no signs of slowing down, and hot on the heels of her fashion collection with H&M released earlier this year, New Yorker Apfel has been hands-on with the beauty range, creating mood boards and trying each sample until she had exactly what she wanted.
Always one to champion an unapologetic and expressive approach to personal style, the American businesswoman, interior designer, and fashion lover has channeled her love of a vibrant colour palette – as well her ever-present statement-lipstick – into the new collection.
Apfel is rarely seen without her signature orangey-red lip, and it’s the highlight of the playful and lighthearted new range, coming with a glossy finish that’s perfectly on trend for the new season.
“The world is a very grey place and I wanted to do a happy, joyful collection to chase the blues away,” Apfel told Forbes, saying her beauty and makeup style has grown along with her.
“I love wearing brightly coloured lipstick and interesting eyeshadow colours to complement the fashion I wear. One item I really couldn’t live without is a bright, bright lipstick.”
The Ciaté London X Iris Apfel range also includes two pocket sized eyeshadow palettes that combine glamorous shimmers, pops of vivacious colour and buttery-soft, neutral mattes, creamy gloss lipsticks in three bright hues, a set of intricately patterned nail wraps and a collectable makeup bag with Apfel’s visage emblazoned on it.
In a press release she said she had created the collection for ‘the creatives, the routine lovers and the daredevils’, combining everything she has come to love about beauty over her 100 years.
“I have worked hard with Charlotte [Knight, CEO and founder of Ciaté London] and the team at Ciaté London to ensure that every formulation has been designed with you in mind. I hope this collection acts as a reminder that to be truly yourself, is to be unstoppable.”
