Cate Blanchett reveals how Prince Philip hilariously asked for her advice on fixing his DVD Player during a lunch at Buckingham Palace.

Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett, 49, made the revelation on The Jonathan Ross Show, revealing how Prince Philip, asked her if her career in film could help him fix his DVD player during a lunch at Buckingham Palace.

Appearing on the ITV talk show at the weekend, the star revealed she’d wondered if the Queen wanted to ask her about playing her Oscar-winning role as her namesake, Queen Elizabeth I when she received the invite. Blanchett played Queen Elizabeth I in 2007.

“There were 12 of us, and I couldn’t work out for the life of me why I’d been invited,” she recalled during the show interview. “Playing Queen Elizabeth and sitting next to her, I thought, maybe she’s seen the movie and wants to ask me about my interpretation.”

Referring to the Duke of Edinburgh, Blanchette said: “I sat next to him and he said, I hear you’re an actor? Well, I was given a DVD player for Christmas and I can’t work out whether I put the green cord in or the red cord’.”

“And I said, ‘Sir, it’s really not my expertise’. I thought, “He’s invited me to lunch to tell me about his DVD player.”

At 97, Prince Philip underwent hip-replacement surgery in April 2018 and attended Harry and Meghan’s wedding without a cane or any visible limp just six weeks later. He reportedly back in shape by walking up and down the stairs for days until he was fit enough to attend.

It later emerged that he has soldiered through the ceremony with a cracked rib, after having a fall in the bath days earlier.

In recent weeks, the royal has been staying at Balmoral with the Queen where she traditionally enjoys her summer holidays surrounded by relatives.
