Carole Baskin wins control of Joe Exotic’s zoo

By MiNDFOOD

Carole Baskin has been awarded control of the zoo formerly owned by Joseph Maldonado-Passage, also known as Joe Exotic from Netflix’s Tiger King.

A federal judge granted Baskin and her animal sanctuary Big Cat Rescue full control over Exotic’s former zoo properties in Oklahoma, which includes about 16 acres of land.

Baskin and Exotic’s longstanding feud was documented in the Tiger King series. Exotic was convicted last year in a murder-for-hire plot against Baskin and is currently serving a 22-year sentence for the hit attempt and other crimes including animal abuse.

Before Exotic went to prison, Baskin sued him for trademark infringement in 2013 after he repurposed and manipulated the Big Cat Rescue logo.

Exotic was ordered to pay roughly $1 million. However, that money never fully made it to Baskin or her cats, and in a second suit in 2016 Baskin claimed Exotic had transferred the Oklahoma property to his mother in order to evade creditors.

A judge has now ordered the property to be handed over to Baskin, with the current tenant having 120 days to vacate and remove all the animals from the premises.
