Brooke Shields’s daughter wore her mother’s first wedding dress to her high school graduation.
In an interview for People published on Wednesday, the Suddenly Susan actress revealed that her youngest daughter Grier Henchy chose to sport the gown – which she had made for her 1997 nuptials to tennis player Andre Agassi – for the event.
“Her graduation dress was my first wedding dress,” said Brooke, explaining that she doesn’t have any emotional attachment to the gown.
“(Andre is) a good guy so to me it was really like a big full circle moment and it honours something and I think that’s healthy.”
Brooke and Andre finalised their divorce in 1999 after two years of marriage. The star wed TV writer Chris Henchy in 2001.
Grier went on to note that she made some significant alterations to the wedding gown before wearing it to her graduation in June.
“We had to re-bone it a little bit, so it was tight and sleek,” the 18-year-old shared. “We took out all the poof because I didn’t want it poofy.”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Brooke emphasised how much she loves it when her girls raid her closet. She was also thrilled when eldest daughter Rowan chose to wear the red Richard Tyler gown she originally donned for the 1998 Golden Globes to her high school prom in 2021.
“First of all, if it had been my idea, it never would have gone over. They would have been like, ‘That’s weird.’ So, the fact she went downstairs and went through the archives and found it on her own, and it was such a special dress,” the 59-year-old smiled.
“Honestly, they can wear anything because just to have it have another life – you save the stuff and wonder why. It’s like, some big Sotheby’s auction? I highly doubt it. Unless they’re iconic items. So, when they have another life, it feels good.”
