The film adaptation of ‘The Woman in Me’, which was released in 2023, will be directed by Wicked’s Jon M Chu and produced by La La Land’s Marc Platt.

The book was a New York Times bestseller and explored her upbringing in small-town Louisiana, her rise to stardom as a teenager, her mental breakdown and the conservatorship she was placed under for 13 years.
The news that Universal acquired the rights to the autobiography comes after interest from big names such as Shonda Rhimes, Brad Pitt’s Plan B and Margot Robbie. Sony, Warner Bros, Fox, Disney and Netflix are also all reported to have vied for the project.
The rights deal was reportedly secured at eight figures and includes rights to Spears’ music catalogue as part of the arrangement, according to The Ankler, which first broke the news.
