Viaduct Harbour has teamed up with award-winning light artist Angus Muir Design to create a full scale lighting experience, Bright Nights, at Auckland’s premier waterfront destination. Featuring more than a dozen installations, the lighting trail will weave its way through the Viaduct Harbour hospitality precinct, starting at the former America’s Cup boat, KZ1 outside the New Zealand Maritime Museum, and finishing at Waitematā Plaza. The event will come alive from 6pm to late on Friday 11 until Sunday 13 May, and is free and suitable for all ages.
With an award-winning portfolio and involvement in over 50 lighting events across 8 countries, Angus Muir is cementing a reputation as a world-class lighting visionary. Muir has, in turn brought a number of locally renowned artists on board who will showcase a variety of cutting-edge technology in their lighting works.
The theme of clean seas and sustainability underpins the festival’s storyline, connecting the audience to the unique Viaduct Harbour waterfront and Sir Peter Blake Trust, the event’s charitable partner. Located in Market Square, ‘Fortune Fountain’ is an interactive art work by Puck Murphy, Conrad Wedde and Olivier Jean proffering a contemporary interpretation of the mythical wishing well. Based on the proverbial notion of water embodying deities, the installation provides a dynamic visual reaction to coins being tossed into the water, with all proceeds going to the charitable trust.
