The 19-year-old pop star, who has been known to wear baggy clothes to avoid comments on her body, is dressed in lingerie in her shoot for the magazine.
Posting the cover to Instagram, British Vogue said Eilish wanted “nothing short of a transformation” for her June cover.
“That Billie is 19, is often hailed as the antidote to toxic tropes for women in pop, and has been a reluctant icon of body positivity – as well as a feminist thought leader for her fans – makes her June cover shoot an intriguing change of gear,” reads the caption.
The singer worked closely with the Vogue team on her “fashion fantasy” for the shoot. The look conveyed in the magazine, as well as her new single ‘Your Power’ which confronts abusers who prey on underage girls, “puts the onus on the viewer to consider their baggage”.
“Don’t make me not a role model because you’re turned on by me,” Eilish told the magazine.
The star said “showing your body and showing your skin – or not – should not take any respect away from you”.
Eilish has previously shied away from wearing tight-fitting or revealing clothes, confessing the reason she wore baggy outfits was because “I hated my body”.
She also said one of the reasons she kept her body covered up was because she doesn’t want the world to “know everything” about her.
“That’s why I wear big, baggy clothes. Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath,” she said in a 2019 Calvin Klein ad.
