Behind the scenes with Dior: the iconic Bar jacket

Christian Dior’s Bar jacket is arguably one of the fashion world’s most iconic and timeless pieces, and now the house of Dior has revealed the remarkable craftsmanship that goes into the cherished style.

The enduring style – which has become known and recognisable for its cinched waist, soft shoulders, hip-accentuating basques and open neckline – made its debut in 1947, sealing Christian Dior’s success.

Over the years, Dior’s creative directors have revisited and reimagined the Bar jacket, imbuing the classic style with their own aesthetic while paying tribute to the maison’s rich heritage.

Now you can go behind the scenes and into the heart of the ateliers a 30, Avenue Montaigne to discover the exceptional technical prowess that goes into the Dior bar jacket.

The Six Fashion Trends to Leave Behind

There’s no time the present to reassess some of those items that have been lingering in your wardrobe without getting any wear. Because it’s never too late to start overhauling your wardrobe or get cracking with those fashion-related resolutions you made months ago, we’ve rounded up the fashion trends from the last decade that need to be left behind in 2020.

1. Fur

Curating a wardrobe that’s ethically minded is a no brainer. And with luxury brand after luxury brand – including the likes of Gucci, Chanel, Coach and Prada – making moves to ban fur, we’ve decided we all need to follow suit, stat.

2. Bike Shorts Outside of the Gym

There’s a definite art to mixing and matching casual pieces with more dressy attire, and in our opinion pairing blazers and heels with bike shorts doesn’t quite cut it.

While we’re all for comfort and the athleisure wear trend sticking around in 2020, we’ve got our fashion fingers crossed that lycra bike shorts start making their way back into the gym in 2020.

3. Distressed Denim

Denim is undoubtedly a wardrobe staple no matter what the season. And the ability to dress up denim to suit the occasion means we find ourselves reaching for our favourite pair of jeans time and time again.

Unfortunately no matter how much we’ve tried to dress up distressed denim with the likes of a  sharp suit jacket and killer pair of heels, the look never quite seems to work. In 2020, we’re leaving our ripped and distressed jeans behind in favour of sleeker silhouettes.

As much as we love a bold colour combo, there are plenty of more wearer-friendly vivid shades out there in the fashion world right now.

5. Teeny-Tiny Sunglasses

Sunglasses have undoubtedly become a fashion statement in their own right, but when the harsh New Zealand sun is beating down on you, you want a pair of sunglasses that not only look good but will provide protection from the sun.

Starting in summer 2020 we’re switching out our teeny-tiny sunglasses in favour of stylish shades that keep our peepers protected too.

6. Ugly Sneakers

While there has barely been a brand that hasn’t jumped on board the ugly Dad sneaker trend, we’ve decided this is one footwear trend that’s more fad than fashion. In 2020 we’ll be swapping out chunky trend-driven sneakers for understated pairs that can be worn season after season.
