Hermès ‘skin’ perfume
Joining the glut of new perfumes arriving on shelves in time for Christmas gifting season, Hermès new release would certainly be welcome under our tree.
The brand new scent, Barénia, is said to be a ‘skin perfume’ rather than an overt floral, bringing together strength and softness. The perfume is a chypre composition with woody and sensual notes, designed by respected perfumer Christine Nagel.
Its refillable bottle stylishly recalls the fashion and accessories house’s famous studded ‘Collier de Chien’ leather and metal cuff bracelets and belts. First designed in 1927, the style was modelled after a dog collar and has become a signature for the luxury brand, not to mention incredibly popular for style aficionados around the world.
Luxe lip formulation
Fifteen years after launch, Rouge G, Guerlain’s luxurious refillable lipstick has been reformulated to be more smoothing, hydrating and plumping.
The original collectable cases feature different textures and colours, like a little fashion accessory, and these have been updated too.
If you’ve never tried them, the cases, which are purchased separately from the lipstick insert that fits inside, hide a flip up mirror which means they are so handy on-the-go. The new cases also have a gold finish, rather than the previous silver.
With French makeup artist Violette, Guerlain’s Makeup Creative Director, at the helm of the refresh, you know you’re going to get a beautiful textures and modern colours.
The new Rouge G lipstick selection includes a host of new shades in a satin or velvet matte finish. Unsurprisingly from a French makeup expert, the selection of reds in particular are a must try, with suits-everyone shades.
Margot for Chanel
Hot on the heels of some huge fragrance ambassador announcements, including Gigi Hadid for Rabanne’s Million Gold For Her and Rihanna for Dior’s J’Adore, there is a new star promoting the most famous perfume of them all.
Mother-to-be Margot Robbie has been revealed as the new face of Chanel No.5. It’s possibly the least surprising paring, given Robbie has a long history of wearing the French brand on the red carpet, which makes it the perfect fit.
“It’s iconic and an iconic brand,” Robbie told WWD.
“It’s that thing that you always associate with absolute height of luxury. At least that’s how I always felt about Chanel. Now I’m in the Chanel family; I associate with more personal memories and things that I’ve gotten to do.”
Elegant glamour at Richard Quinn
Fashion weeks always provide an insight into what’s coming for our wardrobes. However, sometimes they also add a moment of beauty that isn’t so much about trends, but about the industry’s top talents coming together to create glamour that just needs to be admired.
Such was the case at Richard Quinn’s London Fashion Week show, where models showed off an elegant look created by respected UK creatives Sam McKnight on hair and Terry Barber on makeup.
McKnight displayed the brilliance of his namesake hair-styling line (a must, if you’ve never tried, it’s available here from MECCA) by creating elegant French twists with soft, brushed out finger waves in the front of the hair.
Barber delivered a perfected makeup look that was very understated, letting all the elements, including some detailed, embellished pastel gowns, grab the attention.
