Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her 90th birthday today, a milestone that has been celebrated with a new set of collectable postage stamps and a beautiful set of portraits, taken by esteemed photographer Annie Leibovitz.
Queen Elizabeth II, the first nonagenarian monarch, is the subject of three stylised portraits that capture a more tender, familiar side to the Queen.
The first image (pictured above) depicts the Queen, or as her family call her – “Gan-Gan”, surrounded by her two youngest grandchildren and her five great-grandchildren.
The beautiful portrait was released by Buckingham Palace earlier today and depicts the Queen with Princess Charlotte on her lap, Prince George, Zara Phillip’s daughter Mia, Peter Phillips’s daughters Savannah and Isla and the Earl and Countess of Wessex’s children – James, Viscount Severn and Lady Louise Windsor. The children are aged from 11 months (Charlotte) to twelve (Lady Louise).
Two additional pictures have been released that show the Queen enjoying a walk around the grounds of Windsor Castle with her four dogs, dorgis Vulcan and Candy and corgis Willow and Holly.
Another portrait shows a more intimate side again, with the Queen pictured alongside her only daughter – Princess Anne.
