While some may wish to stick to the quiet-luxury side of dressing, plenty of others are embracing a ‘more is more’ approach to accessories.
But the emerging trend is not so much about adding items all over yourself, say rings and earrings. No, it’s about adding them all at once, to your bag.
Decorating your handbag handles with a tied-on scarf and a bunch of dangling bag charms is an approach that was around for a moment in the late 90s and early 2000s, but judging by the number of luxury brands now adding the adornments to their online stores, the trend is seriously back.
How to? Simply attach any number of beads, baubles, ribbon and chains to your bag that express your style, personality or beliefs.
The entry-level cost of key-chains, charms and scarves in is perfectly timed as luxury brands face a tougher economic climate, but without over thinking-it, the playful additions simply add a bit of fun.
Lest you think it’s an approach established by current trend-led influencers (although there were plenty spotted at the recent Australian Fashion Week) consider that Jane Birkin herself was fond of adding extra accessories to the handle of the Hermès handbag that was named after her. In an interview with CBS, she explained: “I just thought it was more fun to hang things off it.”
There’s even a hashtag on TikTok taking off where people ‘#Birkinify’ their bags.
