When a Koala was hit by a car along the Warrego Highway in Coominya, Australia, her rescuers did not expect the cargo that accompanied her.
She was travelling with her joey, when the car hit, causing trauma to the head and a collapsed lung. Thankfully her joey was uninjured, but both were taken immediately to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital in Queensland where the mother was operated on.
The caregivers named the mother Lizzy and her child, Phantom.
During the surgery the vets tried to separate the pair but Phantom was having no part in being removed from his mother.
Whilst Lizzy underwent treatment for her collapsed lung, her little baby stayed right by her side, maintaining a strong vigil and letting her know everything was going to be alright.
Both Lizzy and Phantom made a full recovery after surgery.
