Carla Zampatti opened the week-long celebration of fashion with an outdoor show at Circular Quay in Sydney. The show marked the label’s 60th anniversary, having being founded by the late Zampatti in 1965.
Now designed by creative director Tanya Eamon Beattie, the show featured the feminine glamour well-known to fans of Zampatti, who passed away in 2021, as well as some fresh, modern takes.
Models walked out on a runway set against the backdrop of Sydney Harbour in front of a star-studded front-row that included famous faces and even royalty. Australian-born Queen Mary’s nephew Count Nikolai of Denmark, was one of the high-profile attendees.
Some pieces featured luxurious textures in silk and feather details, while more minimalist draped separates and gowns in black, white and a stunning dandelion yellow will likely be hot property when they land in stores.
The show also featured a number of pieces co-designed by a group of 14 Australian designers including Christopher Esber, Akira Isogawa and Zampatti’s daughter Bianca Spender.
Alex Schuman, Zampatti’s son and now the brand’s CEO said the move was a tribute to the anniversary of the brand but also the history of the fashion industry in Australia as a whole.
Backstage the beauty team were a hive of activity, with hair looks created by Madison Voloshin for Shark Beauty, that drew on the signature of the label’s founder.
“The inspiration behind the look came from Carla Zampatti herself, she had beautiful hair with a lot of strength. says Voloshin. “I once did her hair which was an amazing experience. I tried to pull through the brand DNA by giving the hair a strong yet feminine look using a side part and soft wave but still giving structure to the hair. “
