Japanese-born, Sydney-based architect Koichi Takada is set to create ‘Urban Forest’, a 30-storey residential building which will be covered in 1000 trees and more than 20,000 native plants.
There will be a 1500sqm solar farm on the building’s roof, as well as natural thermal and solar insulation from the building’s green facade.

Attenborough posted about the building on Facebook, talking up its green credentials and issuing a call to “bring nature back into cities”.

Work on Urban Forest in South Brisbane is set to commence at the end of 2021. The building will include 382 homes, a two-level rooftop garden and a public park.
Takada said he was surprised by the feedback and is grateful for the support.
“We weren’t expecting anybody like David Attenborough to recognise our commitment to possibly create the world’s greenest building, but it certainly gives us a great drive to the next level,” Takada said.
