Nedd Brockmann completes 4000km run from Perth to Sydney
Nedd Brockmann, 23, left Cottesloe Beach in Perth, Western Australia 46 days ago to run the 3,900km to Sydney's Bondi beach.

Running an average distance of 85km a day, Brockmann became the fastest Australian to run the journey, and the second fastest in the world. His pace put him on average of two marathons a day.

Eating over 8,00 calories a day, Brockmann ate toasted sandwiches, service station meat pies, Weet-bix cereal, energy bars fruit and a hot meal for dinner each night to keep his energy levels up.

The Tradie from Sydney was welcomed by a huge crowd at Bondi Beach. He said completing the epic journey was like ‘something out of a movie’.

‘I have been so alone on the Nullarbor and all of a sudden running into 10,000 people is just very surreal,’ said an exhausted Brockmann moments after finishing the monumental run on Monday.

‘I’m very excited to be home.’

‘I did 106 kilometres on Saturday, 113 on Sunday so I only had to do 60 today instead of 100, so I am keen to have a few beers with friends,’ he said.

It was his new home that was the catalyst for Brockmann’s journey. When he moved to Sydney he saw a lot of homelessness, and he ‘wanted to make a change’.

And change he did, raising just under $1.7million for homelessness charity, We Are Mobilise.

He revealed that the hardest part of the journey was when he was just 12 days in, and suffered a ‘very severe injury’.

Brockmann’s injuries on the mammoth run included severe tenosynovitis – inflammation of a tendon – in his shins, massive blisters and the maggots in his toes.

Some days he ran in 50km/hour winds, running behind a campervan at time for protection.

‘That was like staring at a brick wall, trying to run for 75km, so there were some days that were worse than others,’ he said.

In true Aussie spirit, the runner celebrated with a shoey – the unusual tradition of drinking a beer out of a shoe.
