Residents of Tasmania's west coast are being urged to evacuate as aggressive bushfires encroach upon their communities.

Granville Harbour resident Grant Hodge likened the advancing flames to a “volcanic eruption,” noting that even at midnight, an orange glow illuminated the sky. He described the harrowing experience: “Daytime turned into dark; the sun was completely blocked out.”

The Tasmania Fire Service has issued an emergency “seek shelter now” warning for Corinna and its surrounding areas. Residents of Granville Harbour have been advised to evacuate by 10 am. The fire service has mobilised significant resources, including 30 aircraft, over 50 firefighters, and six bulldozers, to combat the blazes. Deputy Incident Controller Scott Vinen reported that conditions have slightly improved, with the fire front now approximately 4 km from Zeehan.

Images from the affected regions depict ominous orange clouds, with some residents describing the scene as “apocalyptic.” The situation remains dynamic, and authorities are closely monitoring the fires as they continue to pose significant threats to these communities.
