Ashton Kutcher revealed on National Geographic’s “Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge” that he has been diagnosed with a rare disease.

The actor began suffering from a form of vasculitis nearly two years ago that left him unable to hear or see for an extended period of time.

Kutcher said it took almost a full year to recover from the disease.

Vasculitis is a term for a group of diseases that cause the inflammation of blood vessels, including arteries and veins.

Various diseases such as Cogan’s syndrome and Kawasaki fall under the category of vasculitis, and each type of the disease varies in symptoms, severity and duration.

Early detection and treatment of severe vasculitis can prevent permanent damage.

Kutcher did not reveal the specifics of his diagnosis.
