ASB Season of Under The Mountain
Relive the magic of award-winning novel and hit 80s TV series Under The Mountain.

Lurking in the depths of Auckland’s volcanoes are the Wilberforces – shapeshifting evil aliens plotting our planet’s destruction. Unlikely heroes, 12-year-old twins Rachel and Theo, must learn to harness their extraordinary new powers to stop them and save us all.

Enter a world of mystery, magic and master storytelling, brought to life by a superb cast of actors, dancers, and innovative designers.

Experience the legendary Kiwi adventure that captivated a generation, live on stage for the very first time. A must-see event for anyone 8 years and older.

Recipient of the Margaret Mahy Award, Maurice Gee is one of New Zealand’s best-loved writers. Under the Mountain was adapted for a 1981 television mini-series and a 2009 film. Now, Pip Hall (Why Does Love?, The 53rd Victim, Shudder, The Woman Who Loved a Mountain), is bringing one of Aotearoa’s favourite novels to the stage in a contemporary adaption.

This New Zealand premiere production will be directed by Sara Brodie, whose spectacular stage skills were last seen in Auckland Theatre Company’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

Under the Mountain was commissioned by Auckland Theatre Company with support from the ATC Patrons.
