This wine is from Ara, Marlborough, New Zealand. It is a place where the essential elements of land, climate and people converge into a clear pathway to great wine. The fusion of old world tradition and new world innovation has shaped a new generation for Marlborough wine, combining pure fruit expression with texture, elegance and refinement.
Single Estate wines are a fusion of grapes sourced from all areas of Ara’s single estate vineyard and considered its most complete expression, year on year delivering true consistency in terms of style, flavour and balance.
This 2014 Pinot Gris delivers delicate aromas of pear, and nectarine which flow through to honeyed floral and citrus notes on the palate.
Harvest & Winemaking
Machine harvested with a new Pellenc special selective harvest process that gently removes whole berries, early in March. This, the fourth crop from our vines on the Northern and Southern borders of the vineyard was in outstanding condition. Given the young age of the vines the fruit was left to hang in the autumn sun until fully ripe with a hint of noble rot (botrytis cinerea). The grapes were then transported to the winery, where they were pressed in a gentle bag press, keeping the free run and lightly pressed juices separated. After a couple of days settling the two fractions were returned together for cold fermentation with aromatic enhancing yeasts. The resulting wine was then rested on lees to enhance palate weight until prepared for bottling.
