Angry much? Proof that lack of sleep makes us mad

Burning the candle at both ends? The loss of sleep may also be causing you to also lose your temper.

Losing just a couple hours of sleep at night makes you angrier, especially in frustrating situations, according to new research by Iowa State University.

While the results may seem obvious, the study is one of the first to provide evidence that sleep loss causes anger. The research also provides new insight on our ability to adjust to irritating conditions when tired.

It is well established that sleep loss increases negative emotions, such as anxiety and sadness, and decreases positive emotions, such as happiness and enthusiasm said lead researcher Zlatan Krizan, professor of psychology at Iowa State, however his research shows that sleep loss also has a unique impact on anger.
