The couple walked the red carpet in New York for Broadway’s biggest night, the annual Tony Awards. The awards were held at iconic venue Radio City Music Hall.
While much attention was on George, who appeared to be returning to his usual silver-fox look after a period with dyed-black hair for his role in Broadway play ‘Good Night, and Good Luck,’ Amal was rocking a stunning hair update of her own.
The human rights barrister’s thick locks were styled into a glamorous and voluminous hairstyle, the Hollywood wave the perfect accompaniment for her white, pearl-adorned Tamara Ralph gown.
“Rita Hayworth glam,” her hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos pronounced the look, sharing the inspiration on his social media.
George was is nominated for best performance by a leading actor in a play for his role in ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’.
The actor joked only a haircut could remedy his dyed-black hair for his role. “I had to cut it all out with a weed whacker to get it all,” he teased at the event, according to E! News. “That black hair dye, I had to cut it out. You can’t colour that.”
Amal is known for her incredibly healthy hair and has previously added subtle highlights, but it appears she’s amped up the look slightly for the northern summer. Her chocolate brown hair now features a much lighter front-section with face-framing highlights that reflect light onto her face.
Her hairstylist, described the colour of the transformation as ‘Caramel Flan highlights,’ pointing to the gently warm tone placed solely on the very front of her style. The look was likely created with a painted-on, balayage highlighting technique.
Lightening strands around the face draws attention to facial features and can make your skin look more radiant. The technique, as used on Amal, mimics the natural effects of sunlight, giving a sun-kissed glow.
As Amal has revealed before, the look is a good alternative to a major style overhaul, particularly for very long hair. Instead of changing the entire colour or adding a time-consuming and pricey full head of highlights, it helps add dimension and shape. The colour is easier to revert back to the base colour when she wants to and also means there’s less obvious regrowth so it’s easier to keep up with.
As for that gleaming shine? Her hairdresser is no gatekeeper there either.

The hairstylist recently revealed he used a temporary in-shower glossing product called L’Oréal Paris: Le Color Toning Hair Gloss on her hair. It’s a quick in-shower treatment that neutralises brassiness, boosts shine and colour, and deeply hydrates strands. Dimitris told InStyle that when he did Clooney’s hair, he “applied it onto her wet hair for 10 minutes the same way you apply shampoo.” His technique is to “massage the hair [from root] to ends” to make sure all of the strands are covered in the gloss treatment.
While that exact product is not yet available Down Under, similar products for glossy shine are starting to land on shelves.
To get volume in her hair, Dimitris told WWD he blow dryed with a round brush and set Amal’s hair in rollers. Once her makeup was done, the stylist removed the rollers and brushed out her hair using a paddle brush, setting it with L’Oréal Paris Elnett Hairspray.
As for the lawyer’s dramatic makeup look for the Tony’s the multiskilled Dimitris was on the job too, using Charlotte Tilbury products to create her lash-fluttering neutral look.
According to a post on Instagram the key makeup products included Charlotte Tilbury’s Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer and Beautiful Skin Bronzer for the face and Luxury Palette in Golden Goddess, Exagger-Eyes Liner Duo and Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara for the eyes. She wore the brand’s Lip Cheat Contour Duo Liner in Medium and K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in B***h Perfect on her lips.
Beauty enthusiasts will know Amal has long been a fan of the brand and friend of its founder Charlotte Tilbury, with the makeup artist’s line even including a lipstick named after her, called ‘Amazing Amal.’
