Air New Zealand releases thousands of fares under $50
Today's announcement by the New Zealand Government that social distancing is no longer required on flights was followed by some good news from Air New Zealand.

The removal of passenger capacity limits has meant the national carrier is able to make more than 180,000 of its cheapest fares available for sale across all 20 ports it flies to.

160,000 of these fares are being offered for under $50, with 9000 of these available during the upcoming school holidays.

Additionally, the airline is removing change fees for domestic flights booked for travel up until 31 March 2021.

Air New Zealand CEO Greg Foran said the cheap fares were the airline’s way of saying thanks to its customers for their support these past few months.

“While our borders are closed, we know Kiwis are keen to get out and explore or visit friends and family, so we want to make travel as easy as possible – and this is also great news for local tourism,” he said.

“We had been planning for physical distancing up until late this week, so this news allows us to immediately make those seats available for those who want to travel in the coming days.”

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern declared the immediate easing of physical distancing requirements on public transport while announcing an extension to alert level 2.5 for Auckland and level 2 for the rest of New Zealand.

“I know this change will make a real difference to Air New Zealand and those parts of the country seeking increased numbers of visitors,” the prime minister said.

“And the change made demonstrates the willingness on the government’s behalf to constantly review our settings with everyone’s health at the top of our minds.”

Face coverings are still a requirement for customers and crew on board flights.
