Agent Scully to the Iron Lady: Gillian Anderson’s best TV roles

Margaret Thatcher – ‘The Crown’

Anderson stole the show in season four of The Crown with her portrayal of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Anderson impressed viewers with transformation into the ‘Iron Lady’, showcasing her talented acting skills when going head to head with Olivia Coleman’s Queen Elizabeth II.

Dr Jean Milburn – ‘Sex Education’

Anderson is equal parts captivating and cringe as sex therapist/mother in Netflix’s Sex Education. The show follows Jean Millburn and her teenage son Otis as he navigates puberty, relationships and sex. Fans will be happy to hear season three of Sex Education has already started filming and set to be released in 2021.

Dana Scully – ‘The X Files’

By far one of Anderson’s most iconic roles and the one that shot her to stardom, she played FBI agent Dana Scully for over a decade in the hit series The X-Files.

Stella Gibson – ‘The Fall’

Perhaps one of Anderson’s lesser-known roles, she starred Irish crime drama The Fall as Stella Gibson, a detective hunting an elusive serial killer played by Jamie Dornan.

Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier – ‘Hannibal’

Anderson once again goes up against an intelligent killer in Brian Fuller’s Hannibal. In the gorgeously-shot and tense TV thriller she plays Dr Bedelia Du Maurier, the therapist of Hannibal Lecter.

Miss Havisham – ‘Great Expectations’

Showing her skills as a character actor, Anderson is captivating in her portrayal of the ghostly Miss Havisham in the BBC miniseries adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations.
