At Adele’s concert in Las Vegas over the weekend, the singer was seen approaching Dion, who was sitting in the audience with her family members, watching the show.
Adele can been seen bursting into tears and embracing the French Canadian superstar.
An emotional Dion is seen holding Adele’s face and kissing her hand, before wiping her eyes with a tissue.
Eventually Adele returns to the floor and with a shaky voice asks the audience to sing her hit ‘When We Were Young’ for her, saying ‘Give it up for Ms Céline Dion.’
Dion acknowledges the enthusiastic cheers, standing up and waving to the audience.
Now, Adele has shared her perspective about the moment, revealing why it was so special for her.
“I have been performing in Céline Dion’s room at the Colosseum for almost 2 years now,” the 36-year-old singer wrote on Instagram, alongside an image of the two together on the night.
She said when it came to choosing to work in Las Vegas, it was the only venue she wanted to play because “it was built for her [Dion]”.
“I have a picture of her right next to the stage that I touch every night before I walk on and she came to the show this weekend and it was a surprise and it was a MOMENT!!” she continues.
“Céline Dion I love you so very very much. Words will never sum up what you mean to me, or what you coming to my show means, let alone how it felt seeing you back in your palace with your beautiful family. I have loved being there it has been such an honor and Saturday night will be something I remember forever and ever.”
Adele finished by thanking Dion, saying it was, “such a full circle moment for me to be there with you.”
The 16-time Grammy winner has four weeks of her hit ‘Weekends With Adele’ Vegas residency to go before wrapping up her 2-year stint, which began in November 2022. She has been vocal about her love for Céline over the years, calling her ‘Queen Céline’ after attending one of her performances in an Instagram post in 2018.
Dion made a triumphant return to live performance in July, to close the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, amid her ongoing battle with stiff person syndrome (SPS).
In recent times Dion has shared her battle with the challenging health condition, a rare autoimmune neurological disorder, including in a documentary ‘I Am: Céline Dion‘ which was released in June.
