Adele once again has been hailed a hero, this time after she provided crucial support to her best friend who was experiencing postpartum psychosis.
Laura Dockrill, poet, author, illustrator, short story writer and Adele’s best friend, was diagnosed with postpartum psychosis after giving birth to a boy, who is Adele’s godson. She revealed that Adele, her “spirit sister” quickly detected the signs of the serious mental illness while they were FaceTiming.
Adele, who has spoken candidly about her own postnatal depression struggles, following the birth of her son, shared the “intimate, witty, heartbreaking and articulate” blog piece written by her friend about the experience with her 32.6m followers on Instagram, saying, “Mamas, talk about how you’re feeling, because in some cases it could save yours or someone else’s life.”

Postpartum psychosis occurs in about one in every 1,000 women, with symptoms including hallucinations, delusions, mania, low moods, loss of appetite, insomnia, feeling suspicious or fearful, being confused and behaving in a way that is out of character.
Laura’s blog piece was written for Mother Of Fall Lists and can be found here. She is now recovering with the help of the right medication, a psychiatrist and her family and is feeling “happy, confident and strong”.
