With vegan diets rapidly growing, it is now commonplace to find a large variety of dairy and meat substitutes at your local supermarket.
If you still eat meat and dairy, however, there are also a ton of snack foods, cereals, breads and more that are “accidentally vegan” – meaning people might not know they are vegan, they aren’t branded as vegan or trying to fit into the vegan food group.
Here are just a few accidentally vegan items found in Australia and New Zealand supermarkets. Have you been eating any of them?
- Oreos
- Crumpets
- Farrah’s Wraps
- Bagels
- Vegemite and Marmite
- Doritos (certain flavours only)
- Ploughman’s bread range
- Kellog’s Coco Pops, Nutrigrain, Cornflakes, Rice Bubbles, Sultana Bran
- Dried pasta (check it doesn’t contain egg – most supermarket pastas don’t)
- Puff pastry
- Just Hummus dip range
- Whittaker’s Ghana Peppermint
- Proper Crisps
