5 Products That Make Applying SPF In Winter More Appealing
There's no excuse to skip your skin prevention and protection this season.

There is no denying SPF use is absolutely essential to protect skin. It not only helps prevent the very real risk of skin cancer, but helps stave off the impact that UV rays can have on the condition and appearance of our skin as it ages.

Those facts are undeniable, but what we also know is that SPF can be finicky, many products can feel sticky and heavy and add another step into your routine. That’s before you get to the need to top-up SPF throughout the day!

At this time of year it can be tempting to let your guard drop, thinking you don’t need the product while the weather is colder, with more cloud cover. This is absolutely not the case, experts confirm we still need to wear SPF in winter too! You may not be able to see it working, but it’s there, forming a little preventative armour over skin, if used correctly.

Taking all these things in mind, it’s useful to find an SPF product that makes all these challenges easier. Skincare product formulation is thankfully coming in in leaps and bounds, so choosing a product that delivers great results (and also gives you a little bit of extra glow) is becoming easier.

With the majority of our skin covered with clothing, it’s facial SPF that gets our attention. Winter skin is often drier and more dull, plus we are less likely to apply our bronzer or faux tanning products, so these are five great products that will provide protection and hydration. In some cases, a tint or bronze to return some colour.

L’Oréal Bright Reveal Tinted Moisturiser Tinted SPF50+

We’ve found this this product to be a brightening-dream for weekend skin or if you want something sheerer than foundation.  It comes in two shades and has light-to-medium coverage that has a surprisingly flattering pearl to it. It means provided you apply enough product to achieve a uniform coverage over your skin, it is a true one and done product. Skincare ingredients including niacinamide help with improving texture and tone.

Emma Lewisham Sunceutical SPF 50 Mineral Glow Serum

If skin is looking lacklustre and you’d prefer it to look like you’ve spent a week in the tropics, this new arrival is for you. It has a rich bronze tone that needs to be blended evenly across skin and down the neck, but it looks fabulous once that is done. The result is healthy and radiant, without having to deal with the faff and smell of fake tan.

Raaie Sun Milk Drops Tinted SPF50

It’s hard to find a mineral sunscreen that feels lightweight and hydrating. Made with zinc oxide and the slightest hint of peachy tint that blends in well, this liquid SPF from Kiwi brand Raaie feels great on skin. It’s broad spectrum and has botanical extracts, and gives a lit-from-within glow which is ideal on dry or aging skin.

The brand is available directly, plus it’s just landed in Sephora stores across Australia and New Zealand too.

CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion SPF 50

If you prefer a simple, invisible product that goes on quickly and doesn’t slow your flow with other products or makeup, this is it. It’s lovely and hydrating but has a decent level of protection in it. A seamless addition to your skincare routine.

Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face SPF50+ Matte Sun Serum

We love this for summer too but some people may find the original a bit too glowy when skin is warm and prone to shine. The brand developed this matte version to counter that issue and we love it. It doesn’t look heavy or very matte on skin, it gives skin a bit of life and natural radiance.  Its easy and quick to blend over skin with fingers.
