3 herbs and spices for migraine relief

There are a number of medical and holistic treatments for migraines, including dietary changes. If you suffer from migraines, the simple addition of herbs and spices can help relieve pain. Try adding these three natural ingredients to your daily diet to aid head pain.

Peppermint

Peppermint increases relaxation and helps lower pain. Easily found at any grocery store, this herb can be incorporated into your diet in a variety of ways. Drink it in tea form before bed – it’ll encourage sleep, too – or try adding a few drops of peppermint oil to your bath. When migraines are particularly strong, simply dabbing two or three drops onto your temple will work wonders.

Peppermint also has several other health benefits, including allergy relief and reducing bloating.

Ginger

Ginger has been used for hundreds of years as a natural remedy for multiple health concerns. The tasty spice subdues nausea, a common side effect of chronic migraines, and combats headaches. Try adding fresh ginger to your evening meal, as well as juices and teas. You can also take ginger root supplements for an on-the-go quick fix.

Bonus – ginger also acts an anti-inflamatory and muscle relaxant.

Cayenne pepper

If you like spicy food, cayenne pepper should be a top choice for migraine treatment. The spice is able to divert pain away from the head, making it easier to cope and sometimes even increasing the pain threshold. Add a pinch to your savoury meals, or try a teaspoon mixed with hot water and lemon if you dare.

The fiery spice also aids digestion and stimulates circulation.
