Offering something more nuanced than elements like syrupy vanilla more familiar with gourmand perfumes, Cherry is certainly rising to the fore in perfumery.
Indicative of the more interesting and exciting ‘edible’ notes tipped to be big this year, the popular fruity note is sweet and tart at the same time, and more sophisticated than you might expect.
Tom Ford was arguably the first to elevate the note with the brand’s ‘Lost Cherry’ scent – still a desirable wear – but Victoria Beckham’s Suite 302 goes deep with a black cherry note and Guerlain’s Cherry Oud mixes the fruit with the resin and leather.
As it layers well with these richer, deeper woods and ambers, cherry offers a new twist to familiar blends.
“Coming off the cherry trend, stone fruits—plums, mangos, peaches, apricots—are going to be really big in 2025,” perfumer Arielle Lebeau told Allure. Lebeau is part of Robertet Group, a top French fragrance manufacturer that specialises in natural raw materials.
The trend is extending into skincare and body products too, such as Fenty Beauty’s Cherry Dub Pore Purify’r Gel Cleanser that uses Vitamin-C rich cherry extracts to boost and brighten skin and has a juicy cherry scent.
For colour cosmetics, cherry is a perfect mix of warm and cool hues and works beautifully in sheer balmy textures across cheeks and lips.
Meeting the trend is Glossier’s new capsule collection of Balm Dot Com lip balm, Cloud Paint Gel Cream Blush, Lip Line Enhancing Pencil No 1. Pencil Creamy Long-Wearing Eyeliner, all in the shade Black Cherry.
