100 Years of Activewear

Mode – the website that brought us 100 years of swimsuits and wedding dresses – has done it again, this time with 100 years of gym gear. While it’s not uncommon to see activewear worn outside of the gym these days, we’ll have to admit we’re glad the trend didn’t catch on a couple of decades earlier – you’ll see what we mean when you reach the 1980s.

Karen Walker launches latest ethical fashion initiative

Karen Walker, who has been working with The United Nations’ ITC Ethical Fashion Initiative since 2012, has released a new collaboration with EFI artisans. The collection – which features two beaches totes and a clutch purse – were handcrafted in Kenya and embellished with delicate beading by the women of the Samburu and Massai tribes.

The EFI aims to assist those living in impoverished conditions by promoting sustainable business. Women and men in local African communities receive a regular wage for their work, enabling them to support their families and community. The collection can be purchased online and in-store.
