Now in its tenth year, the Dog Point+Logan Brown Classic Kiwi Picnic is a joint effort between Marlborough’s Dog Point Vineyard and Wellington’s Logan Brown Restaurant and Bar.
The concept arose out of a casual airport conversation between James Healy, Ivan Sutherland and the chefs from Logan Brown. From a single picnic table, it has now grown into an annual event with approximately 180 guests spending a relaxing day enjoying food and wine in an olive grove on the Dog Point Vineyard property.
The picnic concept aims to recreate the traditional “kiwi picnic” with dishes that are true to the picnic theme and carefully matched to Dog Point’s four wines; two styles of Sauvignon Blanc one of which is an alternative style of barrel fermented sauvignon (Section 94), a Chardonnay and a Pinot
Noir. Guests also have the opportunity to try our library release wines before they go to market. The emphasis is firmly on seasonal and local produce including oysters, whitebait, paua, salmon and venison. Seasonal salads, homemade ice cream dessert, coffee and truffles ensure no one is left wanting. While loungers placed in the shade of the many surrounding trees offer a tempting place to rest and recover with the background sounds from Marlborough’s singer-songwriter, Sarah Brown.
Everything about the picnic is convivial with the Dog Point and Logan Brown teams having as much fun as the guests; this is a celebration of everything that makes the kiwi style of picnic unique and special.
