Silver-screen style

By Julianne Liebeck

The style of Jean Harlow, Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn has infiltrated the salon.

Finger waves, pin curls, chignons and soft, seductive bobs are back this summer season as we embrace the influence of old Hollywood cinema in fashion.

I’ve been enjoying the memory of these screen icons while working with clients who ask for a different but timeless and sophisticated look for social events. At Mod’s Hair, we pride ourselves on creating looks that can be achieved easily at home, but I’m thrilled to watch our younger stylists relish the opportunity to showcase their creativity. I also love watching our clients leave with an extra bounce in their step, excited about their night ahead. Perhaps we should put down a red carpet for those leaving the salon?

A good haircut starts with a good foundation. In the salon’s latest collection, Inspirations, we have one haircut that can be worked into three unique looks, celebrating fashion’s spirit of diversity. A sultry blonde bob titled ‘Sharon’ can be worn full with soft velvety volume or defined with gentle curls or with classic finger waves that instantly enhance your bone structure.

I encourage you to have a go. Embrace the style of yesteryear. Just make sure you have a good foundation: back-comb at the roots, use salon-quality hairspray and be firm with your clips. You can hide all of this if you keep your look soft and natural and work with your hair. Remember, helmets are for cyclists.
