It’s all about the shoulder

By Julianne Liebeck

Kate Moss and Sarah Jessica Parker have it. Now it's your turn to sport a chic shoulder-length cut, bog on MiNDFOOD.

The look of the season is not quiet long, not quiet short. We’re finally finished with the  bohemian look, opting for something a little more polished. Translation: sexy and chic.

In London, Kate Moss, Natalia Vodianova, and Gwyneth are sporting the “shoulder” look. In New York, Sarah Jessica Parker and Anne Hathaway both have the length. In your magazines even the models are about the shoulder.

It’s not necessarily about the cut, the length is the important factor when achieving this look. It’s one of those looks that suits women with textured hair or straight locks. And best of all, it swings as well as sharpens your silhouette.

I gave this look to a client recently. She called me a week later to let me know that so many people had commented on how great she was looking and how much weight she’d lost. It was all down to her hair.

You see, when your shoulders and neck are covered you can look very block shaped.  Usually only people six feet tall can carry this off. For the shorter people among us, a “shoulder” cut frames face and exposes the most narrow curve of all, our neck.

One piece of advice: to keep your hair looking fresh it needs to be cut a little more often – perhaps every five weeks, instead of six-eight.
