Taste of Auckland

Award-winning chef and judge of MasterChef Australia Matt Moran will be the star guest at Taste of Auckland this November.

Matt Moran, executive chef of Sydneys Aria Restaurant and judge of Australia’s MasterChef, is heading to Auckland this November as the guest chef for the annual Taste of Auckland food festival, November 18-21.

The New South Wales-raised farm boy has enjoyed enormous success on the Sydney culinary scene since he first opened The Paddington Inn in 1999. His Aria, overlooking the Sydney Opera House, is an award-winning two-hat restaurant. But despite the accolades, Moran has remained true to his roots.

“I grew up with meat and three veg,” he says. Being raised on a farm has had an enormous influence on his food philosophy. “I only source the best and I am also heavily driven by what’s in season – because it makes sense.”

As a guest presenter at the Taste of Auckland, Moran will be sharing his knowledge, experience and kitchen secrets as he demonstrates the preparation of one of his favourite dishes. His aim for the presentation is simple: the audience “should go away with some new knowledge and have some fun while they learn”, he says.

An avid traveller, Moran is thrilled to be a guest judge for the event. “I’m really looking forward to being a part of Taste of Auckland, not only as a presenter, where I can share my passion for what I do best, but also as a guest, sampling and savouring what Auckland and New Zealand have to offer.”

While Taste of Auckland has events planned at a selection of Auckland’s top restaurants including Bracu, Clooney and DINE by Peter Gordon, Moran is just as likely to be spotted dining in a local pub.

This self-proclaimed perfectionist is happy with “a good Aussie pie and a VB while listening to Cold Chisel” when he’s away from his restaurant. Let’s hope he’s happy to settle for a good New Zealand pie and a pint of Monteith’s consumed to the sound of The Chills.
