Edible Gift Tags
Give presents a personal touch with these delightful, edible gift tags.

These tags are so versatile – attach them to presents for loved ones, use as place settings at the festive table, or even hang them from the tree. Using just seven everyday ingredients, these delicious vanilla cookies are simple to prepare.

Vanilla cookies | Makes 30 cookies

185g butter

1 cup caster sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 vanilla bean, seeds only

2¼ cups flour

1 egg

200g good-quality white chocolate

Preheat oven to 180°C.

Place butter, sugar and vanillas in a food processor and blend until smooth.

Add egg and flour and process until a soft dough forms.

Knead dough lightly and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface.

Cut into gift-tag shapes using a sharp knife or cookie cutter and place on baking trays. Pierce one end of cookie using a floured toothpick.

Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden. Cool on racks.

Heat chocolate in double boiler. Allow chocolate to cool slightly. Fill a piping bag with half the chocolate.

Pipe out gift recipients’ names on cookies and dip into remaining chocolate. Allow to cool, before threading a piece of cotton through the hole. (If the hole is closed after cooking, use a toothpick again to carefully to push through.)

Use cookies as gift tags or on a place setting, tied to a fresh fig or to a small box of ganache truffles.
