It has taken some time, but fashion industry’s impact on the environment has finally become an issue that fashion houses are tackling. H&M’s Conscious Exclusive collection tackles sustainability head on with every garment in the collection being created by sustainable materials – including BIONIC, a polyester made of recycled shoreline plastic. “For this year’s Conscious Exclusive collection at H&M, we thought not only about the look of the pieces, but also how they feel and sound. It’s a collection to please all our senses, and also our desire to be sustainable in everything we do,” says Pernilla Wohlfahrt, H&M’s Head of Design and Creative Director.

While Conscious Exclusive is a one-off, limited-release collection, it reflects wider change within H&M: across H&M’s entire offering, 26% is now made from sustainable materials, with a goal each year to increase the share. By 2020 H&M aims for 100% of its cotton to be sustainably sourced.
