Lisa Royle's breast cancer message has gone viral for one major reason

A mother of four who posted an image of her breast before a mastectomy has gone viral, receiving thousands of messages of support from women all around the world.

Lisa Royle, 42, from Manchester in the UK, was diagnosed with breast cancer in April.

On May 11, before heading in for her operation, she posted an image of her breast showing the small dimples that led to her diagnosis.

She captioned the image,

“This all that I found on my boob. Very subtle dimples underneath that could easily be missed when we’re all rushing round getting ready in a morning.”

Royle posted the image, intended to be for friends and family, to encourage women to take a moment out of their day to check for signs of breast cancer:

“Please take time to look at your boobs. It could save [your] life.”

Royle and her husband, Craig, said that they were completely overwhelmed by the response that the image got.

“We’ve been totally overwhelmed by all the support we’ve had,” Craig told Buzzfeed.

“It’s crazy to think one picture has caused this massive internet interest.”

“It’s been absolutely fantastic for cancer awareness.”

Lisa is now home and recovering from her mastectomy.
