U.S students cancel senior trip to aid principal’s cancer treatment
How one selfless act helped change a Principal's life

When the principal of a High School in Bethlehem, New Hampshire told her students she was taking a few days off for personal reasons, she never expected the response to follow.

After Courtney Vashaw was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of soft tissue cancer, she let her students know she would be taking some time off for treatment.

Upon hearing about the tragedy, the senior class decided to rally together to support a woman who had supported them all the way through junior and high school.

The students then decided to cancel their senior trip to New York in order to re-direct the funds for Vashaw’s treatment. All up the students were able to donate US$8,000 (AU$10420) for medical expenses.

Overwhelmed by such an act of kindness, Vashaw was brought to tears upon realising what the students had planned.

“It is very hard for me to accept help, and I have no idea what to say to you,” Vashaw told the students.

“You work so hard to try and help cultivate not only academically astute young people but kids who care. I am just so impressed and so proud of these kids for being the embodiment of that.”
