Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has “actively encouraged” foreign powers to hack the emails of his presidential rival Hillary Clinton, according to her camp.

Clinton’s private email server was investigated by the FBI but she did not hand over 30,000 emails as they contained private details.

Trump on Wednesday instead encouraged world powers to act.

“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” he said. “I think you’ll be rewarded mightily by our press.”

He said the emails would contain some “beauties”.

This comes as Russia stands accused of hacking emails from the Democratic National Committee for Trump’s benefit.

Clinton’s camp was appalled at the suggestion by Trump.

“This has to be the first time that a major presidential candidate has actively encouraged a foreign power to conduct espionage against his political opponent,” Jake Sullivan, Clinton’s senior policy adviser, said.

“This has gone from being a matter of curiosity, and a matter of politics, to being a national security issue.”
