Stephen Fry marries boyfriend Eliot Spencer
British actor and TV presenter Stephen Fry has announced his marriage to partner Elliot Spencer on social media.

The host of TV show QI posted a picture of the special moment, in which the  57-year-old- and partner Spencer, 27,  can be seen signing a marriage register in Dereham, Norfolk, on Twitter to his nearly 8.5 million fans.

“Gosh. @ElliotGSpencer and I go into a room as two people, sign a book and leave as one. Amazing,” the caption reads.

The announcement comes less than two weeks after Fry revealed the couple planned to wed.  The Hobbit star confirmed reports of his engagement on January 6, saying: “I’m very, very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance!”

The couple wore matching green carnation boutonnieres, believed to be a reference to the writer Oscar Wilde, whose 19th Century followers would wear a green carnation on their lapel.

Wilde, who was imprisoned for gross indecency due to an affair with the son of the Marquis of Queensberry in 1895, was one of Fry’s most famous acting roles.

The actor later joked that even the couple’s vows had been witnessed by an Oscar Wilde doll.

“Oh and @ElliotGSpencer and I had our vows witnessed by a mini Oscar Wilde. Because one should,” he said of the unusual witness.

The couple has registered their intention to marry in Dereham, Norfolk, easter England near where fry had grown up. Fry gave his occupation as actor while Spencer was listed as writer in the official documents.

Earlier in the day, Fry had hinted that the wedding would take place by tweeting that he would be attending a banquet before attending a football match. “Gulp! @Ronnieo147 v @nr147 this afternoon @BBCSnooker. A banquet. And then @NorwichCityFC v @CardiffCityFC – good things… #BBCSnooker.”

Same-sex marriage became legal in England and Wales last March, with Scotland following suit last December.
